Improvers
These six-week classes are for suitable for any dogs of any age. These are designed to follow on nicely from our Junior Puppy course but are also suitable for teens or adults looking to learn key life skills and improve their training around distractions. Classes last 50-60 minutes each week.

Drive through Gate One for 50 yards and the school is the first large building on your right with toll free parking in front.
- There is a toll-free car park outside the School for you to use with a small grassed areas where your dog can go to the toilet.
- We ask all owners to wait outside the school by their cars.
- We will open up the school door and call you in one-by-one (so as to avoid any stress to your dog or so we can assist if they are feeling a bit shy).
SAFETY: Please do not attempt to enter the school unless called in on arrival or if late please ring the bell on the door and wait to be brought in. This is due to there being loose dogs or reactive dogs being brought out. Always wait away from the main entrance.

Super Skills
Looking for exciting new behaviours to teach your dog? Our monthly workshop, held at our premises, is perfect for you. Suitable for beginner or intermediate dogs, each session covers a range of engaging skills – from fun tricks like orbit and leg weaves to practical behaviours such as retrieve, hold, and tidy toys. It’s the perfect mix of enjoyable and functional training in a relaxed, supportive environment.
A monthly workshop working on a selection of the following behaviours and adding difficulty to each exercise:
- Back up
- Leg weaves (forward & reverse)
- Shaping tricks including tidy toys
- Sustained Hand touch
- Stand
- Middle positions
- Hold & Retrieve
- Pivot & Orbit
- Play dead
- Crawl
- Chin rest
- Wipe paws
You can attend with your puppy once their second course of vaccinations has been completed and are able to mix safely with the other puppies.

We can allow a maximum of 4 handlers per dog.
Children are welcome, but we must ask they remain seated unless asked to perform training so as to avoid any distractions for your dog.

Age Guide - Suitable for all ages
Intermediate Training Classes
Six-week set of practical classes suitable for any age dog who has completed a puppy follow-on class with Surrey Dog School or similar elsewhere and/or meets the criteria set out below. We will be working on the following cues but adding difficulty to each exercise with distance, duration and distractions being added slowly to proof your training in a controlled manner;
- Ensuring you are using marker training effectively, your dog is responding to their name effectively in all environments/situations, using a release cue correctly and rewarding appropriately
- Sit & Down – Phasing out food/hand lures where appropriate
- Stay/Wait – Differences and when to use which cue
- Recall – Management, games, what to do when it goes wrong! Motivation and rewards
- Walking nicely on a loose lead – Management, motivation and rewards
- Hand Touch – Proofing and purpose
- Leave – Value of item being left, falling item
- Drop – Value of item, different methods
- Send to bed/matt – for you to enjoy a coffee at the cafe or a drink at the pub!
- Emergency stop – Stop your dog mid run!
- Appropriate toy play
- Manners at doorways
- Handling – General handling, vet, groomer etc
- General good manners
- Impulse Control
- How to manage jumping-up
- Certificate & Rosette on completion of class
To teach these exercises takes time, and dedication. You will not be able to achieve the list below by attending six one-hour sessions! Many of our clients repeat the Intermediate Classes as we are able to increase the difficulty for each dog/handler individually and set tasks to work on each week.
